Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair on residential and light commercial HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and water heaters.
- Install, replace, and modify HVAC equipment and components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Conduct thorough preventative maintenance inspections and services to ensure optimal system performance and longevity.
- Educate customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and potential upgrades, providing clear and concise explanations.
- Maintain accurate records of all service, repair, and installation work performed, including parts used and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all DTE Energy safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
- Manage company vehicle inventory, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and in good working order.
- Provide exceptional customer service, building trust and rapport through professional and courteous interactions.
- Participate in on-call rotation schedules as required to provide emergency service.
- Stay updated on new HVAC technologies, methods, and regulatory requirements through continuous learning.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience as an HVAC Service Technician.
- Valid EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- NATE certification (North American Technician Excellence) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical components of HVAC systems.
- Strong understanding of HVAC principles, including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and electrical schematics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions and environments.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent state licensing.
- Experience with smart home technology integration and building automation systems.
- Specific manufacturer certifications (e.g., Carrier, Lennox, Trane).
- Experience with commercial refrigeration systems.
