Job Description

As a Quality Engineer at General Motors’ Warren Technical Center, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across our cutting-edge automotive products, processes, and systems. This position is central to our commitment to excellence, focusing on proactive quality assurance, continuous improvement, and robust problem-solving. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining quality management systems, conducting detailed analyses, and driving initiatives that enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction. Working within a collaborative environment, you will interface with design, manufacturing, supply chain, and production teams to embed quality at every stage of the product lifecycle, from concept to launch. Your expertise will directly contribute to GM’s reputation for engineering innovation and the delivery of superior vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Quality Management Systems (QMS) in alignment with industry standards (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (8D methodology, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams) for quality deviations.
  • Lead and participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities.
  • Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other statistical tools to monitor process performance, identify trends, and drive data-driven decisions.
  • Perform product and process audits to ensure compliance with quality standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management teams to define quality requirements and resolve issues.
  • Develop and execute quality inspection plans, test procedures, and validation strategies for new and existing products.
  • Prepare detailed quality reports, analyze performance metrics, and present findings and recommendations to management.
  • Provide training and guidance on quality principles, tools, and methodologies to enhance overall organizational quality awareness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) such as IATF 16949 or ISO 9001.
  • Strong proficiency in quality tools and methodologies (e.g., 8D, FMEA, SPC, MSA, APQP, PPAP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and automotive product development lifecycle.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • ASQ Certification (e.g., CQE, CSSGB, CSSBB).
  • Experience with electric vehicle (EV) battery systems or advanced automotive technologies.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
