Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated CNC Machinist to join our robust manufacturing team in Detroit, Michigan. As a CNC Machinist at AAM, you will be instrumental in operating, programming, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to produce precision components vital for our driveline and metal forming technologies. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of machining principles, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts in a fast-paced production environment. You will work with advanced machinery, interpreting blueprints, performing setups, and ensuring all manufactured parts meet strict specifications and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain various CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders) to produce high-precision automotive components.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to determine machining operations.
- Program CNC machines, including G-code and M-code, for specific tasks and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance.
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, making adjustments as necessary.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic machine alarms, tool wear issues, and minor operational problems.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and production teams to ensure efficient workflow and product quality.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
- Document production and quality control data accurately.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and reduce waste.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC lathes, mills, or grinders.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Solid understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, profilometers).
- Familiarity with various cutting tools, inserts, and their applications.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Machining Technology, CNC Programming, or a related field.
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or similar control systems.
- Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Ability to perform advanced machine adjustments and preventative maintenance.
- Experience with multi-axis machining.
