Ingalls Shipbuilding is actively seeking highly skilled and dedicated Pipefitters to join our dynamic team in Pascagoula, Mississippi. As a Pipefitter, you will play a critical role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of complex piping systems essential for our cutting-edge naval vessels. This position demands precision, a strong understanding of various pipe materials—including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, and other exotic alloys—and the ability to interpret intricate technical drawings, blueprints, and isometric plans. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of piping system installation: from accurately laying out and fabricating components, to assembling, installing, and rigorously testing systems to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality, operational integrity, and stringent military specifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Precisely read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and isometric drawings to determine pipe routing, dimensions, and specifications for marine applications.
- Accurately measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and weld various types of pipes and tubing (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, etc.) using appropriate tools and machinery, adhering to project requirements.
- Fabricate and assemble pipe components, spools, and supports, ensuring perfect fit-up, alignment, and structural integrity.
- Install piping systems, valves, hangers, supports, and associated components within the designated areas of naval vessels, often in challenging spatial constraints and elevated positions.
- Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing on installed piping systems to detect leaks and ensure structural integrity, operational reliability, and compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
- Inspect work for compliance with rigorous quality standards, industry codes (e.g., ABS, ASME), and military specifications (e.g., MIL-STD, NAVSEA).
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including pipe cutters, threaders, grinders, reamers, and various welding equipment (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick).
- Collaborate effectively with other skilled trades personnel (welders, shipfitters, electricians, etc.) to ensure efficient project workflow, resolve issues, and ensure timely completion.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, strictly adhering to all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Identify and report potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or quality control issues to supervisors to ensure a safe and efficient working atmosphere for all team members.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Pipefitter, preferably in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or marine environments.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and isometric drawings.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel), and various pipe joining techniques including welding (TIG, MIG, Stick), brazing, and mechanical fittings.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, thread, bend, and install various types of pipe and tubing.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and safety procedures (e.g., OSHA, ABS).
- Demonstrated ability to perform hydrostatic and pneumatic testing on piping systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions and demanding industrial settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Pipefitter apprenticeship program or vocational training.
- Experience specifically in a shipbuilding or marine repair environment.
- Current welding certifications (e.g., AWS D1.1, D1.6, D17.1) relevant to pipefitting.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.
