We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farm Produce Trader to join our dynamic sourcing team in Badagry, Nigeria. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring the consistent supply of high-quality raw materials, such as grains, legumes, and other agricultural commodities, directly from local farms and markets to our processing facilities. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of the local agricultural landscape, strong negotiation skills, and a passion for building lasting relationships with farmers and suppliers. Key Responsibilities
- Identify and establish relationships with local farmers, cooperatives, and produce suppliers in the Badagry region and surrounding areas.
- Conduct thorough market research to understand price trends, supply availability, and seasonal variations of agricultural commodities.
- Negotiate procurement contracts and prices with suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness and consistency in supply, adhering to company standards.
- Perform quality checks on farm produce at the point of purchase, ensuring all materials meet FMN's strict quality specifications.
- Coordinate with logistics and transportation teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery of procured produce to designated FMN facilities.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production planners to forecast future raw material needs.
- Maintain accurate records of all transactions, supplier information, and market data.
- Address and resolve any issues related to quality, quantity, or delivery with suppliers proactively.
- Stay informed about agricultural best practices, local regulations, and industry trends that may impact sourcing.
- Promote sustainable sourcing practices and build strong, ethical relationships with the farming community.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in farm produce trading, sourcing, or procurement, preferably in Nigeria.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong understanding of agricultural market dynamics, pricing, and supply chain processes.
- Ability to assess the quality of various farm produce (e.g., grains, cassava, maize).
- Proficiency in local languages relevant to the Badagry area (e.g., Egun, Yoruba) is a strong advantage.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
- High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field-based role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Agriculture, Agronomy, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Established network of farmers and suppliers in the Badagry / Lagos-Ogun corridor.
