Job Description
Are you a meticulous and dedicated professional with a passion for quality in the agro-processing sector? Benfruit Nigeria Limited is seeking an experienced Quality Control Officer (Agro-products) to join our dynamic team in Makurdi. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in upholding our stringent quality standards, ensuring that all raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet both internal specifications and regulatory requirements. You will monitor and inspect the entire production process, from farm gate to market, identifying potential deviations and implementing corrective actions to guarantee product safety, consistency, and superior quality. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections and tests on incoming raw materials (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.) to ensure they meet specified quality parameters and company standards.
- Monitor and inspect all stages of the production process, including washing, sorting, processing, packaging, and storage, to identify and address any quality issues promptly.
- Perform chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses on in-process and finished products using established laboratory procedures and calibrated equipment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all quality control tests, inspections, and data, ensuring full traceability and compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Identify non-conforming products or processes, investigate root causes thoroughly, and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other relevant food safety standards (e.g., NAFDAC, SON).
- Collaborate effectively with production, procurement, and Research & Development teams to implement quality improvement initiatives and address quality-related concerns proactively.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment regularly, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and precision of all test results.
- Assist in the development and continuous review of quality control procedures, work instructions, and product specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive quality reports for management, highlighting trends, issues, and strategic improvement recommendations.
- Participate actively in internal and external audits to ensure ongoing compliance with quality management systems and certifications.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in quality control within an agro-processing or food manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of national and international food safety standards, including GMP, HACCP, and NAFDAC regulations.
- Proficiency in laboratory testing techniques and equipment for chemical, physical, and microbiological analysis of food products.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply quality control data to drive process improvements and ensure product integrity.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting, team collaboration, and training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for data management and report generation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a cross-functional team in a dynamic production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Agricultural Science, or a closely related field.
- Certifications in HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, or other recognized food safety management systems.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and quality management software.
- In-depth knowledge of local agricultural produce, their quality characteristics, and seasonal variations.
