As a Long-Haul Truck Driver with Yukon Freightways, you will be instrumental in our mission to provide unparalleled freight services. Your primary responsibility will be the safe and efficient transportation of goods between Whitehorse and various destinations, often involving inter-provincial or inter-territorial routes. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailer units over long distances, adhering to all traffic laws and company safety protocols.
- Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues.
- Ensure proper and secure loading, unloading, and securement of cargo to prevent damage and ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate electronic logbooks, trip reports, and all required documentation in compliance with HOS regulations.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with dispatch regarding pick-ups, deliveries, delays, and any on-road incidents.
- Adhere strictly to all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, provincial/territorial traffic laws, and company policies.
- Handle minor roadside repairs or maintenance as needed, and coordinate with maintenance for more significant issues.
- Represent Yukon Freightways professionally to clients, partners, and the public at all times.
- Navigate diverse terrain and weather conditions common in northern Canada, exercising sound judgment and defensive driving techniques.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 1 (or A) Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable long-haul commercial driving experience
- Clean Commercial Driver Abstract and satisfactory safety record
- Proficiency in maintaining electronic logbooks and understanding HOS regulations
- Ability to operate various transmission types (manual and automatic)
- Strong understanding of load securement principles and practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions on the road
- Physical fitness to perform job duties, including lifting and handling equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving in northern Canadian conditions (ice, snow, gravel roads)
- Familiarity with Whitehorse and major Yukon/Alaska/BC routes
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and minor repairs
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Forklift operation certification
