Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group support to students under the direction of a classroom teacher or Special Education Resource Teacher.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
- Support students with academic tasks, organizational skills, and adaptive technology use.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting student independence and social-emotional development.
- Supervise students in various school settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and during transitions.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Assist with personal care, mobility, and feeding for students as required, maintaining dignity and respect.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Educational Assistant or Child and Youth Care diploma/certificate program.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working as an Educational Assistant in a school setting.
- Experience with various assistive technologies and communication aids.
- Knowledge of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) principles or other behavioural support strategies.
- Understanding of the Ontario curriculum and special education policies.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training or equivalent.
