We are thrilled to announce that Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Biomedical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an immediate hiring opportunity for a Full-Time position. You will be instrumental in the planning, selection, evaluation, and maintenance of a wide array of sophisticated biomedical devices and systems that are essential to our clinical operations.

You will work closely with clinicians, nurses, IT specialists, and other engineers to provide comprehensive technical support, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex repairs, calibration, and preventative maintenance on a broad range of medical equipment, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and life-support devices.
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of new medical technology, ensuring compatibility, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support and training to clinical staff on the proper and safe operation of medical equipment.
  • Conduct electrical safety testing and risk assessments for medical devices.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment malfunctions, working collaboratively with clinical and vendor support teams.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment histories.
  • Ensure all medical equipment complies with Canadian health regulations, standards, and hospital policies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of equipment management programs and policies.
  • Assist in special projects related to medical technology integration, system upgrades, and facility improvements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in clinical engineering or medical device maintenance, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating various types of medical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of medical device regulations and safety standards (e.g., CSA, Health Canada).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to non-technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
  • Certification as a Clinical Engineer (e.g., CCE) or eligibility for P.Eng. in Ontario.
  • Experience with specialized medical equipment such as imaging systems, anesthesia machines, or laboratory analyzers.
  • Project management experience in a healthcare or technical environment.
  • Knowledge of network integration and cybersecurity principles related to medical devices.
