Job Description

As a skilled Crane Operator (Port) at Bergé Marítima in Huelva, you will be a vital link in our sophisticated port logistics chain, responsible for the precision handling of diverse cargo types. This pivotal role demands exceptional operational dexterity, an unwavering commitment to safety, and a profound understanding of heavy machinery operation within a bustling, dynamic port environment. You will be tasked with the efficient and secure movement of various materials, including containers, bulk goods, general cargo, and specialized project cargo, utilizing advanced port cranes such as ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHCs), or reach stackers, depending on the specific terminal needs. Your expertise will directly contribute to the seamless loading and unloading of vessels, ensuring tight operational schedules are met with utmost accuracy and maintaining the high standards of service our clients expect from Bergé Marítima.

You will work as part of a highly coordinated team, collaborating closely with stevedores, cargo planners, supervisors, and other port personnel to optimize workflow, enhance productivity, and uphold stringent safety protocols at all times. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of port cranes (e.g., STS, MHC, Reach Stacker) safely and efficiently to load and unload cargo from vessels.
  • Perform daily pre-operational checks, routine inspections, and minor maintenance on crane equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and port procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with vessel crew, stevedores, and supervisors via radio and other systems.
  • Monitor cargo movements, ensure proper sequencing, and prevent damage to cargo and equipment.
  • Contribute to maintaining high levels of productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational delays immediately.
  • Participate in ongoing training and safety refreshers as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Crane Operator, preferably in a port or heavy industrial environment.
  • Valid certification for operating heavy port cranes (e.g., STS, MHC, RTG).
  • Strong understanding of crane mechanics, load charts, and safe lifting practices.
  • Excellent spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties in varying weather conditions and shift patterns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific types of cargo handling (e.g., containers, bulk, project cargo).
  • Knowledge of Spanish port regulations and procedures.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly advantageous.
