Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting and dynamic role at the heart of aviation? Swissport International AG is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Airport Ground Staff team in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. As an integral part of our operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe turnaround of aircraft, playing a vital role in the passenger journey and cargo movement. This fast-paced environment requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety. You’ll be working outdoors in various weather conditions, collaborating closely with a diverse team to meet tight deadlines and maintain the highest standards of service. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform baggage handling, including loading and unloading luggage, cargo, and mail from aircraft, ensuring proper weight distribution and secure placement.
  • Operate various ground support equipment (GSE) such as baggage tugs, belt loaders, and passenger stairs (after receiving full training and certification).
  • Guide aircraft to and from parking stands using established marshalling procedures and signals.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, assisting passengers with special needs, boarding, and general inquiries as required.
  • Conduct pre-departure checks, including security sweeps and ensuring the aircraft is clean and ready for its next flight.
  • Communicate effectively with flight crews, airline representatives, and other airport personnel via radio and face-to-face.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and airport procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Assist with de-icing procedures during colder months, if applicable.
  • Handle and transport special cargo, including dangerous goods, live animals, and oversized items, following specific protocols.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 32kg) repeatedly.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Basic proficiency in English (for communication with international crews/passengers).
  • Possession of a valid Spanish driving license (Class B) and ability to obtain an airport driving permit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an airport environment or a similar fast-paced operational role.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery or ground support equipment.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., German, French, Italian).
  • Knowledge of aviation safety and security regulations.
