Job Description
People’s United Bank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic team in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and assisting with audits. This role demands proficiency in accounting software and a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements
- Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues across various departments
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Implement and maintain accounting procedures
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience in the financial services industry
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting
- Knowledge of tax accounting
