Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Panel Beater to join our bustling Mlolongo service centre. As a Panel Beater at AutoXpress, you will play a critical role in our workshop, specializing in the repair and restoration of vehicle bodywork damaged through accidents, collisions, or general wear and tear. Your primary responsibilities will include accurately assessing the extent of damage, meticulously hammering out dents, using specialized tools and equipment to reshape and align vehicle panels, and performing intricate welding, sanding, and filling tasks. You will be expected to work proficiently with various materials, including steel and aluminium, ensuring that all repairs maintain the vehicle’s structural integrity and meet manufacturer specifications. This position demands exceptional craftsmanship, an acute eye for detail, and a thorough understanding of vehicle body construction and repair techniques. You will be instrumental in restoring damaged vehicles to their pre-accident condition, enhancing both their safety and aesthetic appeal. Key Responsibilities
- Assess and diagnose vehicle body damage, identifying the most effective repair methods.
- Perform skilled panel beating, dent removal, and body repair using specialized hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
- Repair and replace damaged vehicle body panels, including welding, soldering, and brazing.
- Carry out chassis straightening and alignment using advanced equipment.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, grinding, and applying fillers, ensuring a smooth and flawless finish.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, ensuring all repairs meet AutoXpress and manufacturer specifications.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations in the workshop.
- Collaborate effectively with painters, mechanics, and other technicians to ensure timely and coordinated repairs.
- Keep work area clean and organized, and maintain tools and equipment in excellent working condition.
- Provide accurate estimates for repair times and material requirements.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Panel Beater in a busy automotive repair workshop.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of panel beating tools and equipment (e.g., hammers, dollies, welders, grinders, sanders).
- Strong knowledge of vehicle body construction, materials, and repair techniques.
- Expertise in dent removal, panel replacement, welding (MIG/TIG), and body filler application.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and repair diagrams.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Awareness of automotive safety standards and workshop procedures.
- Valid driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Panel Beating, Automotive Body Repair, or a related field (e.g., NTSA, NITA certification).
- Experience with chassis measurement and straightening systems.
