Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic and skilled Mechanical Engineer with a passion for optimizing manufacturing processes and ensuring peak operational efficiency? Capwell Industries Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer (Manufacturing) to join our growing team in Ruiru, Kenya. This pivotal role involves the design, development, installation, maintenance, and improvement of mechanical systems and equipment used in our food processing and packaging lines. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our diverse machinery, from initial concept through to continuous operation. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, implement preventative maintenance programs, and drive projects aimed at enhancing production capabilities and reducing downtime. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your engineering prowess in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment, contributing directly to the production of beloved household brands. You will collaborate closely with production, quality assurance, and R&D teams, playing a key role in our continuous pursuit of operational excellence and innovation in the FMCG sector. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test mechanical components, systems, and equipment for manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery, production lines, and plant equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures and operational issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency enhancements in manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, food safety standards, and quality control procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, electrical, quality, R&D) to optimize operational flow and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and procurement for critical mechanical components.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably FMCG or food processing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for design and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission systems.
  • Experience with industrial automation, including knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional engineering registration (EBK).
  • Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for maintenance management.
