Job Description

Are you a dedicated and energetic individual passionate about making a tangible difference in your community? The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality is seeking a committed Municipal Services Worker to join our vital team in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal. This is an essential hands-on role that directly contributes to the upkeep, cleanliness, and functionality of our public spaces, infrastructure, and service delivery within the Verulam area. As a Municipal Services Worker, you will be on the front lines, ensuring our neighbourhoods are safe, clean, and pleasant for residents and visitors alike. Your responsibilities will vary widely, from maintaining public parks and green spaces to assisting with waste management, road and pavement repairs, and general urban environmental services. This role demands physical fitness, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit. You will operate under the guidance of experienced team leaders, adhering strictly to safety protocols and municipal standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of public parks, gardens, and recreational areas.
  • Assist with the collection, sorting, and disposal of waste materials, including refuse removal and litter picking.
  • Participate in the maintenance and minor repairs of municipal infrastructure such as roads, pavements, stormwater drains, and street furniture.
  • Operate and maintain basic hand tools and power equipment safely and effectively.
  • Clear overgrown vegetation, manage weeds, and assist with landscaping tasks.
  • Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or faulty equipment to supervisors promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Provide support for various municipal service delivery initiatives as required.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve operational goals.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Punctual and dependable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Code 8 (B) South African Driver's License.
  • Previous experience in a similar municipal, maintenance, or general labour role.
  • Basic knowledge of landscaping, waste management, or civil maintenance practices.
  • Relevant certifications in occupational health and safety.
