Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging, informative, and safe historical, cultural, and scenic tours for diverse groups of visitors.
- Provide accurate, well-researched, and captivating commentary on Ladysmith's history, landmarks, and culture.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all tour participants, adhering to all company and local safety protocols.
- Manage tour logistics efficiently, including timings, routes, and managing group dynamics.
- Address guest queries, provide recommendations, and offer assistance with professionalism and courtesy.
- Promote local attractions, businesses, and cultural experiences, contributing to the local tourism economy.
- Maintain a professional appearance and a positive, enthusiastic demeanour at all times.
- Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of tour vehicles and equipment as required.
- Collect and relay feedback from guests to improve tour experiences.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- In-depth and verifiable knowledge of Ladysmith's history, particularly the Anglo-Boer War, and local culture.
- Demonstrated strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem-solve effectively and adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
- Valid South African driver's license (Code B or higher).
- Physical fitness to conduct walking tours and stand for extended periods.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within a short period).
Preferred Qualifications
- A formal qualification in Tourism Management, History, or a related field.
- Proficiency in additional South African languages, particularly isiZulu or Afrikaans.
- Prior experience in heritage interpretation or guided tours in a historical context.
- A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) for transporting passengers.
- Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and environmental conservation practices.
