Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Packhouse Supervisor to join our dedicated team at Mogalakwena Citrus Estate in Naboomspruit. This critical role involves overseeing all daily operations within our bustling packhouse, ensuring the efficient and quality-driven processing of our citrus produce. The Packhouse Supervisor will be instrumental in maintaining our high standards for sorting, grading, packing, and dispatching fruit, ensuring that every piece meets market specifications and client expectations. You will be responsible for a diverse team of packhouse staff, fostering a productive and safe working environment while meticulously managing resources and adherence to strict hygiene and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily packhouse operations, including fruit receiving, sorting, grading, packing, and dispatch.
- Manage a team of packhouse staff, including scheduling, training, performance management, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, including fruit specifications, packaging requirements, and food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GlobalG.A.P.).
- Monitor production targets and implement strategies to optimize efficiency, minimize waste, and improve throughput.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the packhouse facility.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure all machinery is in good working order, arranging for repairs as needed.
- Manage inventory of packing materials, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety regulations, conducting regular safety briefings and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with farm management, logistics, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless operations.
- Implement and enforce company policies and procedures among packhouse personnel.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in packhouse operations, preferably within the citrus or fresh produce industry.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong understanding of quality control and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GlobalG.A.P.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- A valid South African driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- A National Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Production Management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of packhouse automation systems.
- First Aid and Forklift operator certification.
- Fluency in Afrikaans or a relevant local language in addition to English.
