Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Farm Manager to oversee the comprehensive operations of our agricultural property in Mashishing, Mpumalanga. This pivotal role requires a hands-on leader who can drive productivity, manage resources efficiently, and foster a high-performance team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of farm management, from crop planning and livestock care to financial oversight and the implementation of sustainable farming practices. You will ensure that all operations comply with relevant agricultural regulations and company standards, while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, and manage daily farm operations, including planting, irrigation, harvesting, and pest control for crops.
  • Oversee the health, welfare, and production of livestock, including breeding programmes, feeding, and veterinary care.
  • Develop and manage farm budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure cost-effective resource allocation.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate farm staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain and repair farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Implement and monitor sustainable farming practices, including soil conservation, water management, and biodiversity preservation.
  • Keep accurate records of all farm activities, including production data, financial transactions, and inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and national agricultural laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Analyse market trends and identify opportunities for diversification or improvement in farm production.
  • Prepare regular reports on farm performance, challenges, and proposed solutions for senior management.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in farm management, with a strong understanding of both crop and livestock production.
  • Sound knowledge of agricultural best practices, including soil management, irrigation, pest control, and animal husbandry.
  • Demonstrated financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Valid South African driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Farm Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with precision agriculture technologies (e.g., GPS, drones, sensor systems).
  • Knowledge of relevant agricultural software for record-keeping and analysis.
  • Familiarity with local agricultural markets and supply chains in Mpumalanga.
  • Fluency in additional local languages (e.g., Sepedi, isiZulu, Afrikaans).
