Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile General Artisan to join our dynamic team in Morgenzon, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks across various disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general facility upkeep. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and continuous operation of our plant and facilities, minimising downtime, and upholding the highest standards of safety and quality. The General Artisan will work independently and as part of a team, troubleshooting issues, executing preventative maintenance schedules, and responding promptly to breakdowns. You will be expected to apply your technical expertise to diverse challenges, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated artisan to contribute significantly to our operational success and further develop their multi-disciplinary skills within a leading industrial group. A strong commitment to safety protocols and environmental regulations is paramount for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all plant machinery, equipment, and facilities according to schedules.
- Conduct electrical fault finding, repairs, and installations on motors, control panels, wiring, and associated systems.
- Execute mechanical repairs, including but not limited to, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Undertake welding, fabrication, and structural repairs as required.
- Address plumbing issues, including pipe fitting, leak detection, and repair of water and waste systems.
- Assist with general building maintenance, carpentry, and minor construction tasks.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and diagnose faults efficiently to minimise operational downtime.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment status.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams to coordinate maintenance activities and reduce disruption.
- Participate in emergency response efforts and call-outs as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven multi-skilled technical expertise (e.g., electrical, mechanical, welding, plumbing)
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals
- Excellent understanding of safety procedures and regulations (e.g., OHS Act)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various environmental conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognised Trade Test Certificate in at least two disciplines (e.g., Electrical, Fitter, Welder)
- N3 or N4 technical qualification
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or agricultural processing environment
- Forklift and/or overhead crane operating license
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification
