Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled, professional, and safety-conscious Truck Drivers to join our dynamic team in Sharpeville, Gauteng. This vital role involves the safe and efficient transportation of a wide range of goods, primarily across designated routes within Gauteng and potentially to surrounding provinces, ensuring timely deliveries and strict adherence to all traffic regulations and company operational policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (Code 14) with various trailer configurations to transport goods to designated locations.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, accurately documenting and reporting any defects or issues promptly.
  • Ensure all loads are secured properly, complying with weight distribution regulations and company loading procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, road safety regulations, and internal company driving policies.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery manifests, waybills, and all other required documentation digitally and/or manually.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, clients, and fellow team members regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any on-road incidents.
  • Assist with the safe loading and unloading of goods as required, utilising appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Represent Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions professionally and courteously at all times, fostering positive client relationships.
  • Manage fuel consumption efficiently and maintain the cleanliness and good working order of the assigned vehicle.
  • Actively participate in all mandatory safety briefings, training programs, and performance reviews to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere to strict timelines and delivery schedules to ensure operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Valid Code 14 Heavy-Duty Driving License with a valid PrDP (Public Driver's Permit)
  • Minimum of 2 years verifiable professional experience as a Truck Driver (Code 14)
  • Clear criminal record with recent police clearance certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of South African road regulations, traffic laws, and heavy vehicle operations.
  • Proven track record of safe driving, accident-free history, and adherence to delivery schedules.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks, troubleshooting, and roadside assistance.
  • Good physical condition and ability to handle long hours of driving, varying weather conditions, and physical demands of the job.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions under pressure, and effectively manage time.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) for clear communication and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various types of trailers (e.g., flatbed, tautliner, tanker, super-link, abnormal loads).
  • Familiarity and proficiency with GPS navigation systems, route optimisation software, and in-cab technology.
  • Additional certifications in defensive driving, hazardous materials transport (Hazchem), or advanced driver training.
  • Residency within or close to Sharpeville, Gauteng, demonstrating local knowledge and commitment.
  • Experience working in a large-scale logistics or supply chain environment.
