Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Agricultural Technician to join our dedicated team in Vereeniging, Gauteng. This vital role involves providing technical support, maintenance, and expert advice on a wide range of agricultural machinery, equipment, and modern farming technologies. As an Agricultural Technician, you will be on the front lines, ensuring our clients’ operations run smoothly and efficiently. Your day-to-day will involve hands-on diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repair of complex machinery, from tractors and harvesters to irrigation systems and precision farming tools. You will also be instrumental in assisting farmers with the integration and optimal use of cutting-edge agricultural software and hardware, including GPS guidance systems, variable rate technology, and remote sensing equipment. This position requires a blend of mechanical aptitude, technical proficiency, and excellent problem-solving skills, coupled with a passion for agriculture and a commitment to client satisfaction. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on various agricultural machinery and implements (tractors, harvesters, planters, sprayers, etc.).
- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot precision agriculture technologies, including GPS systems, auto-steer, and yield monitors.
- Conduct electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical system diagnostics using specialized tools and software.
- Provide technical support and training to farmers on the proper operation and maintenance of equipment and new technologies.
- Assist with soil sampling, analysis, and interpretation to advise on optimal nutrient management and crop health strategies.
- Maintain accurate service records, inventory of parts, and complete necessary documentation.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with sales and agronomy teams to ensure integrated client solutions.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in agricultural technology and equipment.
Required Skills
- Relevant Technical Diploma or Certificate in Agricultural Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, or Mechatronics.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience as an Agricultural Technician or similar role.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostic and repair skills.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining modern agricultural machinery.
- Basic understanding of precision agriculture technologies (GPS, variable rate, etc.).
- Valid South African driver’s license (Code B or C1).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific agricultural machinery brands (e.g., John Deere, Case IH, Massey Ferguson).
- Familiarity with agricultural software and data management platforms.
- Knowledge of crop science, soil management, and irrigation systems.
- Relevant trade certification (e.g., Diesel Mechanic, Agricultural Equipment Mechanic).
- First Aid certification.
