Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Baker to join our dynamic team at Shoprite Evaton Mall. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to contribute to our high-volume bakery, producing a wide range of fresh, delicious baked goods for our valued customers. As a Baker, you will be instrumental in maintaining our reputation for quality and freshness, from artisan breads to delightful pastries and cakes. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of bread, rolls, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods according to Shoprite's recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain bakery equipment, including mixers, ovens, and proofers, ensuring cleanliness and proper functionality.
- Monitor product quality and consistency throughout the baking process, making adjustments as necessary.
- Manage inventory of baking ingredients, placing orders and receiving deliveries as required.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety regulations, health codes, and hygiene standards.
- Decorate and present baked goods in an appealing manner for display.
- Assist customers with special orders and inquiries, providing excellent service.
- Contribute to a positive and productive team environment, offering support to colleagues when needed.
- Ensure the bakery area is clean, tidy, and organized at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Baker or in a similar role within a retail or commercial bakery environment.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy ingredients, and work in varying temperatures.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal culinary or baking qualification/certificate.
- Experience with large-scale production baking.
- Knowledge of different dough types and fermentation processes.
