Job Description
Mogale City Local Municipality invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the challenging and rewarding position of Qualified Electrician, based in our Kagiso operations. This crucial role is instrumental in ensuring the continuous and safe operation of electrical systems within the municipal infrastructure, including public buildings, community facilities, street lighting networks, and various other municipal assets across the Kagiso area.

Key Responsibilities
- Conducting routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative repairs on all municipal electrical systems and installations within Kagiso.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical faults in streetlights, public buildings, substations, and other municipal infrastructure.
- Installing, commissioning, and maintaining new electrical systems and components in compliance with SANS 10142 standards and municipal guidelines.
- Performing emergency repairs and attending to call-outs after hours or on weekends as required, ensuring minimal disruption to public services.
- Inspecting electrical work performed by contractors to ensure adherence to specifications and safety standards.
- Maintaining accurate records of all electrical work performed, including repairs, installations, and material usage.
- Ensuring strict adherence to all health and safety regulations (OHS Act) and municipal policies during all electrical operations.
- Advising on and implementing energy efficiency measures for municipal electrical systems.
- Collaborating with other municipal departments and external stakeholders on infrastructure projects.
- Providing technical guidance and support to junior staff or apprentices when necessary.
Required Skills
- National Technical Certificate (N3 or higher) in Electrical Engineering or relevant trade test certificate.
- Valid Wireman’s License (single phase and three phase).
- Minimum of 3 years demonstrable experience as a qualified Electrician, preferably in a public sector or heavy industrial environment.
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and SANS 10142 (Wiring Code).
- Proven ability to diagnose and rectify complex electrical faults.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Valid Code B (or higher) South African Driver’s License.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- N6 Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with municipal electrical distribution networks.
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and reporting.
- Ability to speak local indigenous languages (e.g., isiZulu, Setswana) commonly used in the Kagiso area.
