We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and empathetic Funeral Parlour Assistant to join our esteemed team at Doves Funerals in Dobsonville. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the respectful removal of the deceased from homes, hospitals, or other locations, ensuring all necessary protocols are followed.
- Prepare the deceased for viewings, funerals, or cremations, which may include dressing, casketing, and applying cosmetics as instructed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderly presentation of the funeral parlour, viewing rooms, chapel, and vehicles.
- Set up and arrange chapels, viewing rooms, and graveside services according to family wishes and company standards.
- Provide empathetic support and guidance to grieving families and visitors, answering questions and addressing concerns with sensitivity.
- Drive and maintain funeral vehicles, including hearses and removal vehicles, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.
- Assist Funeral Directors and Embalmers with various tasks as needed.
- Handle and process all necessary documentation accurately and discreetly.
- Participate in on-call rotations for removals outside of standard business hours.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and company policies.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid South African driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Exceptional empathy, compassion, and discretion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Resilience and emotional maturity to handle sensitive and distressing situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a funeral home, healthcare, or client service environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of various cultural and religious funeral customs.
- Proficiency in local languages spoken in Dobsonville (e.g., isiZulu, Sesotho).
