Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialized Electrician to join our dynamic technical team based in Hyde Park, Gauteng. This critical role involves performing complex electrical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial sites. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced understanding of electrical systems, including high-voltage applications, industrial control systems, building management systems (BMS), and sophisticated diagnostic techniques. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical infrastructure, adhering strictly to national electrical codes (SANS 10142) and company safety protocols.

This position requires a proactive problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. You will work independently on complex assignments, as well as collaboratively with other trades professionals and clients, often under tight deadlines. A strong focus on preventative maintenance, fault finding, and implementing sustainable electrical solutions is essential. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex electrical installations, upgrades, and modifications in accordance with SANS 10142 and other relevant regulations.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on various electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, security systems, and HVAC controls.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot intricate electrical faults in industrial and commercial environments using advanced testing equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair specialized equipment, including variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electricians and apprentices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and material usage.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs outside of regular working hours when required.
  • Collaborate with facilities managers, clients, and other trades to ensure seamless project execution and operational continuity.

Required Skills

  • National Technical Certificate (N3) or higher in Electrical Engineering or relevant field.
  • Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) as an Electrician.
  • Valid Wireman's License (Single Phase, Three Phase, or Master Electrician).
  • Minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience as a Specialized Electrician.
  • In-depth knowledge of SANS 10142 (Wiring of Premises) and other relevant electrical codes.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex electrical circuits and systems.
  • Experience with industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs) and motor control.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations (OHS Act).
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation.
  • Certification in specific electrical equipment or technologies (e.g., hazardous locations, solar PV).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
