Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Agricultural Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations of our farm located near Tshwaraganang, North West. This critical role involves taking full responsibility for the planning, management, and execution of all farming activities, ensuring optimal production, efficiency, and profitability. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team, implement best agricultural practices, manage resources effectively, and maintain high standards of crop and potentially livestock health (depending on farm type). Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of daily farm operations, including planting, irrigation, pest control, fertilization, harvesting, and post-harvest activities.
- Develop and implement annual farm budgets, detailed production plans, and comprehensive financial reports.
- Manage, train, and mentor a diverse team of farm workers, ensuring efficient labour allocation, high productivity, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor crop health, soil conditions, weather patterns, and market trends to make informed and strategic decisions regarding farm practices and resource deployment.
- Ensure proper maintenance, repair, and optimal operation of all farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Implement and promote sustainable farming practices, including water conservation and soil health initiatives, and ensure full compliance with all environmental regulations and industry standards.
- Manage the procurement of all farm inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, animal feed) and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all farm activities, yields, expenses, inventory, and sales data.
- Implement and oversee stringent quality control procedures for all agricultural products, ensuring they meet VKB’s high standards and market requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations on the farm.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural farm management (minimum 5 years in a supervisory role).
- Strong knowledge of crop production cycles, soil science, irrigation techniques, and modern farming technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership, team management, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and complex problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in farm management software, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate farm machinery.
- Ability to work independently, make critical decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing conditions.
- Strong financial literacy, budget management, and cost control experience.
- High level of integrity, strong work ethic, and commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Farm Management, or a closely related field.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies (GPS, drones, sensors).
- Knowledge of local agricultural markets, supply chains, and regulatory frameworks.
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English (both written and spoken).
- Relevant certifications in agricultural practices, machinery operation, or pesticide application.
