Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Regional Farm Manager to oversee multiple farming operations within the Thabong and greater Free State region. This pivotal role involves strategic planning, operational management, and ensuring the profitability and sustainability of our diverse agricultural portfolio. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a deep understanding of modern farming practices, capable of optimising resource utilisation, implementing cutting-edge agricultural technologies, and fostering a high-performance team culture across various sites.

As a Regional Farm Manager, you will be instrumental in driving our agricultural initiatives forward, identifying opportunities for expansion and improvement, and ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship. This position demands a blend of strong technical farming expertise, exceptional business acumen, and outstanding interpersonal skills to manage diverse teams and engage effectively with stakeholders. You will be responsible for setting and achieving production targets, managing budgets, and implementing risk mitigation strategies, all while championing Senwes’s commitment to innovation and sustainable agriculture. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic farming plans to achieve regional production targets and profitability goals across multiple farm sites.
  • Oversee all aspects of crop production (e.g., maize, wheat, sunflowers) and potentially livestock management, from planting/breeding to harvesting/processing.
  • Manage and optimise resource allocation, including land, labour, water, machinery, and agricultural inputs.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor operational budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of farm managers, supervisors, and farm workers, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures across all regional operations.
  • Analyse market trends, weather patterns, and agricultural data to make informed decisions and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of farm activities, production yields, financial performance, and inventory.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and innovative farming techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability.
  • Foster strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, stakeholders, and local communities.
  • Prepare regular performance reports for senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and proposed solutions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in large-scale commercial farm management, preferably in a regional or multi-site capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy, crop science, and sustainable agricultural practices specific to the Free State region.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated financial management and budgeting expertise.
  • Proficiency in agricultural software, farm management systems, and general office applications.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and adapt to changing environmental and market conditions.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Management, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Experience with precision agriculture technologies and data-driven farming.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry and livestock management (if applicable to regional farms).
  • Certification in relevant agricultural training programs.
