Job Description

Are you a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker looking to make a significant impact from the comfort of your home? The Department of Social Development, North West, is seeking a qualified and experienced Remote Social Worker to join our dynamic team serving the Christiana community and surrounding areas. This is a unique opportunity to provide essential social services, support, and interventions to individuals, families, and communities, while enjoying the flexibility of a remote work model. As a Remote Social Worker, you will be instrumental in assessing client needs, developing comprehensive intervention plans, facilitating access to resources, and advocating for vulnerable populations. Your work will involve addressing a wide range of social challenges including child protection, family support, gender-based violence, substance abuse, and poverty alleviation. You will utilize virtual platforms and innovative approaches to engage with clients, conduct assessments, facilitate counselling, and coordinate services, ensuring continuous support and care. We are looking for someone who is not only professionally competent but also possesses a strong sense of empathy, resilience, excellent communication skills, and an ability to navigate complex social issues remotely. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual psychosocial assessments and develop individualized intervention plans for clients.
  • Provide remote counselling, guidance, and support to individuals, families, and groups facing various social challenges.
  • Facilitate access to relevant social services, government grants, and community resources through virtual channels.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations, including children, youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
  • Monitor client progress, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and prepare detailed reports, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
  • Participate in virtual team meetings, case conferences, and professional development training sessions.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate support, escalating cases as necessary.
  • Educate communities on social issues and available services through virtual outreach and awareness campaigns.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience as a Social Worker.
  • Proven ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and develop intervention plans.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using virtual communication platforms and office productivity software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively in a remote environment.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations in rural or peri-urban settings.
  • Additional qualifications or specialized training in areas such as child protection, family therapy, or substance abuse.
  • Proficiency in local languages prevalent in the North West Province (e.g., Setswana, Afrikaans).
  • Prior experience with remote work or telehealth service delivery.
