Job Description

Mbotyi River Lodge is actively seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly motivated Remote Lodge Manager to strategically oversee and optimize the intricate operations of our esteemed establishment. This unique remote position is designed for an exceptional leader who can adeptly leverage modern technology and superior communication skills to manage critical aspects of our lodge from a distance. Your primary objective will be to ensure seamless operations, cultivate unparalleled guest experiences, and drive robust financial performance without requiring daily physical presence at the lodge. While the vital day-to-day on-site management is competently handled by a dedicated local team, you will be entrusted with the overarching strategic direction, comprehensive financial oversight, innovative marketing initiatives, astute staff coordination (working closely with on-site team leads), efficient vendor management, and ensuring our cherished brand standards are consistently met and exceeded. This pivotal role demands a proactive problem-solver with a profound understanding of contemporary hospitality management, a natural flair for digital communication, and the undeniable ability to inspire and drive success in a remote leadership capacity. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine strategic operational plans to significantly enhance overall guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Provide comprehensive financial oversight, including meticulous budgeting, accurate forecasting, stringent expenditure control, and advanced revenue management from a remote perspective.
  • Collaborate and coordinate seamlessly with on-site department heads and team leaders to ensure the consistent delivery of high service standards across all lodge functions (e.g., front desk, food & beverage, housekeeping, recreational activities).
  • Manage and optimize online booking systems, cultivate strong relationships with third-party travel agents, and leverage various digital distribution channels to maximize occupancy.
  • Formulate and execute innovative marketing and sales strategies to attract new guests, foster repeat business, and amplify brand visibility across digital platforms.
  • Proactively monitor guest feedback and online reviews, implementing timely corrective actions and improvement initiatives to elevate service quality.
  • Conduct regular virtual meetings and performance reviews with on-site staff, providing constructive guidance, mentorship, and support for their ongoing professional development.
  • Oversee procurement and inventory management processes, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and the highest quality of supplies.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for both guests and staff.
  • Develop and maintain robust, collaborative relationships with local suppliers, community leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on lodge performance, analyze market trends, and present insightful strategic recommendations to ownership.
  • Skillfully handle escalated guest issues and resolve conflicts professionally and efficiently through various remote communication channels.

Required Skills

  • Proven extensive experience in hospitality management, preferably within a lodge, boutique hotel, or resort setting.
  • Exceptional digital literacy and demonstrated proficiency with property management systems (PMS), online travel agencies (OTAs), and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Strong financial acumen, including advanced skills in budgeting, forecasting, and revenue management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to motivate, inspire, and manage remote teams effectively.
  • Superior strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of making sound, data-driven decisions under pressure.
  • Complete proficiency in English, both written and verbal, for all professional communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exhibiting a high level of self-discipline, proactivity, and exceptional organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or a higher diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Extensive experience with marketing and social media management specifically within the hospitality sector.
  • Familiarity with the Eastern Cape tourism market and a deep appreciation for local culture.
  • Knowledge of local language (Xhosa) is considered a distinct advantage.
