Job Description

Media24 is seeking a dedicated and passionate Remote Local Journalist/Community Reporter to join our team, specifically focusing on the vibrant and unique stories emerging from Mqanduli, Eastern Cape. This is a crucial role for someone deeply embedded in the local community, eager to uncover and report on issues, events, and individuals that shape the daily lives of its residents. As a remote journalist, you will be the eyes and ears of Media24 in Mqanduli, responsible for identifying, researching, writing, and producing compelling news stories, features, and investigative reports.

Your work will contribute to our broader regional and national news coverage, ensuring that the voice of Mqanduli is heard and understood. You will engage with community leaders, local organizations, businesses, and everyday citizens to gather accurate information and perspectives. This role demands a high degree of self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail, as you will manage your workflow independently while meeting strict editorial deadlines. We are looking for someone who understands the nuances of community reporting, the importance of local context, and who can craft narratives that resonate with a diverse readership. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and pitch news stories, features, and investigative reports relevant to the Mqanduli community.
  • Conduct interviews with local residents, community leaders, officials, and other relevant sources.
  • Write clear, concise, accurate, and engaging articles that adhere to journalistic standards and Media24's editorial guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within Mqanduli to source exclusive stories and information.
  • Produce multimedia content (photos, videos, audio) to complement written articles when necessary.
  • Fact-check all information diligently to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Stay informed about local politics, social issues, economic developments, and cultural events in Mqanduli.
  • Manage deadlines effectively and submit high-quality work consistently.
  • Adhere to ethical journalism practices, including fairness, impartiality, and privacy.
  • Collaborate remotely with editors and other team members to refine stories and align with publication strategies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in journalism, reporting, or content creation.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting interviews and gathering information from diverse sources.
