Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and seat guests promptly upon their arrival, making them feel welcome.
- Present menus, articulate daily specials, answer questions about food and beverages, and make informed recommendations.
- Accurately take food and drink orders, carefully noting any special requests or dietary restrictions, using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Serve food and beverages promptly, professionally, and courteously.
- Monitor tables regularly to ensure guest satisfaction, proactively refilling drinks and anticipating their needs.
- Process payments accurately and efficiently, handling both cash and card transactions with integrity.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of dining areas, including tables, chairs, and service stations, to Mugg & Bean's high standards.
- Collaborate effectively and openly with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure smooth, synchronized service.
- Handle guest inquiries and resolve any complaints with professionalism, empathy, and a positive problem-solving attitude.
- Assist with the efficient setting up and closing down of the dining area, including stocking supplies and preparing for the next service.
- Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions (some of which may be conducted remotely).
- Engage in occasional remote work for tasks such as shift scheduling coordination or administrative reporting as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Waiter/Waitress in a customer-facing, fast-paced restaurant environment (minimum 6 months).
- Exceptional customer service and outstanding communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team setting.
- Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to multitask efficiently under pressure.
- Basic mathematical proficiency for accurately handling payments and managing bills.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and to lift and carry trays.
- Possession of a consistently positive attitude and a professional, polished demeanor.
- Familiarity and competence with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- A formal hospitality certificate or relevant vocational training.
- Prior experience working with Mugg & Bean or a similar high-volume franchise model.
- Proficiency in more than one local language (e.g., isiXhosa, English) to better serve our diverse clientele.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards and practices.
