Are you an ardent ornithologist, a skilled communicator, and a digital content wizard with a profound passion for the unique birdlife of the De Rust and broader Klein Karoo region? Murasie Guest Farm is seeking a dedicated Remote Birdwatching Guide to join our team. This innovative role focuses on leveraging your expertise to enrich our guests’ experiences and expand our digital presence, all from a remote work setting. While your physical location is flexible, your profound knowledge of De Rust’s avian fauna, local ecosystems, and birding hotspots is paramount. You will be instrumental in developing engaging virtual content, offering remote consultation, and inspiring a love for birdwatching among a global audience, all centered around our beautiful corner of the Western Cape. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging virtual birding workshops, webinars, and live online sessions specifically focused on the birdlife of the De Rust and Klein Karoo area.
  • Create comprehensive digital bird identification guides, checklists, and seasonal birding reports for the De Rust region, suitable for distribution to guests and online communities.
  • Provide remote pre-trip birding consultations to guests, advising on optimal viewing locations, equipment, and species expectations for their visit to Murasie Guest Farm and surrounding areas.
  • Curate and produce high-quality, informative, and captivating digital content (blog posts, articles, social media updates, short video scripts) highlighting the unique avian biodiversity of De Rust.
  • Engage with our online community, answering questions, sharing insights, and fostering a vibrant discussion around local birdwatching.
  • Identify and research new birding trends, conservation efforts, and scientific discoveries relevant to the Klein Karoo ecosystem to keep our offerings cutting-edge.
  • Collaborate with the on-site team to ensure a consistent and enriching birding experience for all guests, translating remote expertise into tangible on-site benefits.
  • Contribute to the development of our ecotourism initiatives by proposing new virtual experiences or digital products related to birdwatching.

Required Skills

  • Proven, in-depth knowledge of bird species, habitats, and behaviors prevalent in the De Rust, Western Cape, and wider Klein Karoo region.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex information engagingly.
  • Proficiency in creating digital content (e.g., writing, basic video editing concepts, social media management).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
