We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Consultant with a specialized focus on Agriculture to join our dynamic team. As our Environmental Consultant, you will be instrumental in guiding our operational strategies, ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, and championing best practices across our extensive agricultural holdings in the Langkloof. You will lead the development and implementation of environmental management systems, conduct comprehensive impact assessments for new projects, and provide expert advice on issues ranging from water resource management and soil health to biodiversity conservation and waste management. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) tailored to agricultural operations.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all national, provincial, and local environmental legislation pertinent to agriculture.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new agricultural developments and expansions.
- Provide expert advice on sustainable agricultural practices, including water management, soil conservation, and biodiversity protection.
- Prepare comprehensive environmental reports for internal use and submission to regulatory authorities.
- Facilitate environmental training and awareness programs for farm management and staff.
- Identify potential environmental risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Manage and oversee environmental audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Stay informed about new environmental technologies, policies, and best practices in the agricultural sector.
- Liaise with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental consulting or management, specifically within the agricultural sector.
- In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA, NEM:WA, NWA, CARA).
- Proven experience in conducting EIAs and developing EMPs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex environmental issues clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
