Joubertina Landbou Koöperasie Ltd., a cornerstone of the Koukamma agricultural community, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Remote Agricultural Pest Control Technician. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to operate independently, managing their daily schedule, logistics, and administrative tasks from a home base, while conducting essential fieldwork across the Joubertina and surrounding Eastern Cape regions. You will be instrumental in safeguarding the agricultural productivity and sustainability of our members’ farms.
As a Remote Agricultural Pest Control Technician, you will be responsible for a designated territory, acting as a crucial point of contact and expert resource for our farmer members. Your core duties will involve performing comprehensive on-site inspections to identify various agricultural pests – including insects, rodents, birds, and weeds – affecting crops, livestock, stored products, and farm infrastructure. You will develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) plans tailored to specific farm needs, utilizing a combination of chemical, biological, and cultural control methods in an environmentally responsible manner.
This role demands a proactive approach, including regular communication with farmers, providing expert advice on prevention strategies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations. You will be equipped with modern digital tools for efficient route planning, remote reporting, and maintaining meticulous records of treatments, observations, and recommendations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough on-site inspections of agricultural properties to identify pest infestations and potential risks.
- Develop and implement tailored Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for crops, livestock, stored products, and farm structures.
- Apply pesticides, baits, and other control methods safely and effectively, adhering to all regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor pest populations and treatment efficacy, adjusting plans as necessary.
- Provide expert advice and training to farmers on pest prevention, sanitation, and best agricultural practices.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of services performed, products used, and pest activity using digital reporting tools.
- Manage assigned territory efficiently, including scheduling appointments and optimizing travel routes from a remote base.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with farmers, colleagues, and management.
- Stay updated on new pest control techniques, products, and industry trends, especially within the agricultural sector.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural pest control or a related field.
- Valid Pest Control Operator license in South Africa (or ability to obtain one).
- In-depth knowledge of agricultural pests (insects, rodents, weeds, fungi) and their life cycles.
- Proficiency in applying various pest control methods and equipment.
- Strong understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle for travel within the service territory.
- Familiarity with digital reporting and scheduling tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Entomology, Pest Management, or a related field.

- Knowledge of local agricultural regulations and environmental conservation practices.
