Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Guesthouse Manager to lead the daily operations and guest experience at Slangrivier Gasteplaas. This is a unique hybrid role, allowing for a blend of on-site operational management and flexible remote administrative work. The successful candidate will be the heart of our guesthouse, ensuring all aspects of our operations run smoothly, from welcoming guests to managing bookings and staff. You will be responsible for maintaining our high standards of service, enhancing guest satisfaction, and contributing to the overall success and reputation of the Gasteplaas. This role requires a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and a genuine passion for hospitality and rural tourism. You will oversee all aspects of our guest’s journey, from initial inquiry to departure, ensuring every detail is meticulously handled. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily guesthouse operations, ensuring a seamless and high-quality guest experience.
- Manage all aspects of guest relations, including bookings, check-ins, check-outs, and handling inquiries or complaints.
- Supervise, train, and motivate guesthouse staff (housekeeping, maintenance, administrative support).
- Implement and maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency across the property.
- Manage budgets, financial transactions, and petty cash, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies, including social media management and online presence, to attract new guests.
- Manage inventory, ordering supplies, and liaising with local suppliers and service providers.
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs, ensuring the property and facilities are always in excellent condition.
- Handle administrative tasks remotely, such as email correspondence, report generation, and online booking system updates.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in hospitality management, preferably in a guesthouse or boutique hotel setting.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proven ability to manage staff, foster a positive work environment, and ensure high performance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in guesthouse management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Financial literacy and experience with budget management.
- Valid South African driver's license and own reliable transport.
- Problem-solving abilities and capacity to work under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field.
- Experience with farm stays or rural tourism operations.
- Multilingual proficiency (especially Afrikaans and English).
- Knowledge of local attractions and activities in the Western Cape.
- Basic first aid and fire safety certification.
