Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and report on local news stories, events, and issues relevant to the Vermont and Hermanus community.
- Conduct in-depth interviews with diverse sources, including community leaders, residents, local businesses, and government officials, to gather accurate and comprehensive information.
- Write clear, concise, engaging, and rigorously accurate news articles, features, and reports tailored for both print and various digital platforms.
- Develop and actively maintain a strong network of contacts within the community to generate leads for exclusive and impactful stories.
- Attend and report on local government meetings, community events, court proceedings, and press conferences as required.
- Adapt and optimize content for various digital formats, including web articles, engaging social media updates, and potentially original video/audio clips.
- Collaborate closely with editors and other team members to ensure editorial quality, factual accuracy, legal compliance, and strict adherence to ethical guidelines.
- Consistently meet strict daily and weekly deadlines for content submission, often under pressure.
- Actively contribute to story ideation, editorial planning, and strategic content development sessions.
