Whale Coast Builders is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Builder/Foreman to join our growing team, operating primarily remotely with essential on-site engagements in the Onrusrivier and broader Overberg region. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned construction professional to leverage modern technology and flexible work arrangements while maintaining hands-on oversight of diverse residential and commercial projects. As our Remote Builder/Foreman, you will be the linchpin connecting our remote planning with on-the-ground execution. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the exacting quality standards synonymous with the Whale Coast Builders name. This role demands a proactive leader who can meticulously plan, communicate effectively across digital platforms, and periodically visit sites to ensure seamless progress and resolve any on-site challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets, utilizing project management software for remote oversight.
- Conduct virtual team meetings and daily digital check-ins to monitor progress, address issues, and coordinate tasks with on-site teams.
- Perform periodic on-site inspections in Onrusrivier and surrounding areas to assess work quality, safety compliance, and project milestones.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, and sub-contractors, managing communications largely through digital channels.
- Oversee material procurement and logistics, optimizing for cost-effectiveness and timely delivery to various construction sites.
- Ensure all projects adhere strictly to local building codes, safety regulations (OHS Act), and the company's rigorous quality standards.
- Manage comprehensive project documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and change orders, primarily through digital platforms.
- Mentor and guide on-site teams, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and excellence, providing support and direction remotely.
- Proactively troubleshoot and resolve project challenges, leveraging a strong understanding of construction processes and effective remote problem-solving.
- Prepare detailed progress reports, financial summaries, and risk assessments for senior management, presenting findings virtually.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience as a Builder or Foreman in residential or commercial construction.
- Exceptional remote project management skills, with proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello, Procore, MS Project).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and comprehensive safety regulations (OHS Act).
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills for effective remote and in-person interaction.
- Proficiency in G-Suite or Microsoft Office Suite, and comfortable with virtual collaboration tools.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Valid South African driver's license and reliable transport for essential site visits within the Overberg region.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma or Certificate in Building, Construction Management, or a related tertiary qualification.
- Demonstrated experience with virtual collaboration tools and digital site monitoring technologies.
- Familiarity with the unique construction market and local regulations within the Onrusrivier/Overberg area.
