Job Description

SOLA Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Solar Panel Technician to join our dynamic team, operating from a home base within the Kleinzee, Northern Cape region. This unique remote role requires a dedicated professional capable of independently managing and executing solar PV system installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting across various sites predominantly within the Northern Cape. While your administrative base will be remote, significant travel to client locations for hands-on work is an inherent and essential part of this position. You will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of our solar installations, ranging from residential to light commercial projects. This role demands exceptional technical proficiency, a strong commitment to safety standards, and excellent problem-solving abilities. You will work autonomously, managing your schedule and logistics, while maintaining close communication with our project managers and technical support teams remotely. The ideal candidate will be passionate about renewable energy, possess a meticulous eye for detail, and thrive in an environment that values initiative and independent execution. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive installation, maintenance, and repair of solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, batteries, and monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct site assessments to determine optimal solar panel placement, system design, and structural requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, electrical issues, and performance discrepancies using remote diagnostics and on-site testing.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, industry standards, and local electrical codes during all work activities.
  • Complete and submit detailed work orders, inspection reports, and documentation accurately and on time, utilizing digital tools.
  • Educate clients on system operation, maintenance procedures, and safety guidelines, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Manage and maintain company-provided tools, equipment, and vehicle in excellent working condition.
  • Coordinate logistics for site visits, including travel planning, material procurement, and scheduling with clients and project managers.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated with the latest solar technologies and industry best practices.
  • Provide remote technical support and guidance to customers and junior technicians when not on site.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in solar PV system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Valid Electrical Wireman's License or equivalent electrical qualification (e.g., N3 Electrical Engineering).
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote-field environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and solar PV system architecture.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills for complex electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Proficiency in using power tools, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, etc.).
  • Valid South African driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer literacy for digital reporting and remote communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accreditation from the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) PV GreenCard.
  • Experience with various inverter brands (e.g., Victron, Deye, SMA, Huawei).
  • Knowledge of battery storage systems and grid-tie/off-grid configurations.
  • Certification in Working at Heights and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with project management software for task tracking and reporting.
