Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and proactive Remote SCADA System Operator to become an integral part of our dynamic operational team. This critical role involves the continuous remote monitoring, precise control, and intelligent optimization of our extensive portfolio of renewable energy assets, with a primary focus on our large-scale wind farms located in the Northern Cape, including the renowned Loeriesfontein Wind Farm. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted, safe, and maximally efficient operation of our facilities from a designated remote location, leveraging cutting-edge Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This position demands an exceptionally keen eye for detail, superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and a consistently proactive approach to managing complex operational challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor and operate complex SCADA systems for wind farms, substations, and associated electrical infrastructure from a remote control center.
- Analyze real-time operational data, performance trends, and meteorological forecasts to identify anomalies, diagnose faults, and ensure optimal performance and availability of assets.
- Respond promptly and effectively to all alarms, operational alerts, and system warnings, initiating appropriate corrective actions or escalating issues according to established protocols.
- Coordinate closely and efficiently with on-site maintenance teams, field technicians, and engineers for troubleshooting, planned repairs, and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Generate comprehensive operational reports, daily performance summaries, incident logs, and other required documentation, maintaining accurate records of all system events and operational changes.
- Implement approved operational procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response plans, ensuring strict compliance with all relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate actively in ongoing training and professional development programs to stay abreast of SCADA technology advancements, control room best practices, and evolving industry standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of SCADA systems functionality, operational workflows, and data visualization tools.
- Provide first-line technical support for operational issues, offering remote guidance and expertise to field teams when necessary.
- Assist in the optimization of plant dispatch and energy production based on market conditions and grid requirements.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in SCADA systems operation and monitoring (e.g., experience with Siemens, GE, Vestas, or similar wind farm control platforms).
- Strong analytical and advanced problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and act upon complex data sets and technical schematics.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with remote teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high performance in a remote work environment.
- Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical principles relevant to large-scale power generation and grid integration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and meticulous record-keeping.
- Demonstrated ability to make quick, critical, and informed decisions under pressure, often in time-sensitive situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a closely related technical field.
- Relevant certifications in SCADA system operation, industrial automation, or control room management.
- Specific experience with wind turbine control systems and their interfaces.
- In-depth knowledge of South African grid codes, renewable energy regulations, and health and safety standards.
- Previous experience working in a remote operations center, network operations center (NOC), or control room environment within the energy sector.
