Job Description
Are you a passionate storyteller with an intimate knowledge of the Northern Cape’s hidden gems, ready to bring its wonders to life from a remote setting? Kalahari Tours is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Remote Regional Tour Guide to join our dedicated team. While this role is based remotely, it requires a deep understanding and a virtual presence centered around the unique landscapes, history, and culture of the Northern Cape, including areas surrounding Dingleton. In this innovative role, you won’t be physically leading tours but rather acting as a virtual expert, architecting unforgettable experiences, providing virtual briefings, curating digital content, and coordinating seamless logistics for our on-the-ground partners. You will be instrumental in designing compelling itineraries, researching new attractions, and ensuring our clients receive exceptional pre- and post-tour support, all from your remote base. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your regional expertise and passion for tourism to create exceptional virtual and coordinated travel experiences, playing a crucial role in our mission to share the authentic Northern Cape with a global audience. We are looking for someone who can translate their on-the-ground knowledge into engaging remote interactions and meticulous planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine detailed tour itineraries and educational content specifically for the Northern Cape region, including historical, cultural, and natural attractions.
- Conduct virtual pre-tour briefings and post-tour debriefings with clients, utilizing video conferencing tools to provide engaging and informative sessions.
- Act as a primary point of contact for client inquiries regarding Northern Cape tours, offering expert advice and personalized recommendations.
- Research and identify new attractions, activities, and local partners within the Northern Cape to enhance existing tour offerings.
- Coordinate remotely with local guides, accommodation providers, transport services, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless tour execution.
- Create engaging digital content (e.g., blog posts, social media snippets, video scripts) that highlights the unique appeal of the Northern Cape.
- Monitor competitor activities and market trends within the regional tourism sector to ensure Kalahari Tours remains competitive and innovative.
- Provide comprehensive support to our sales and marketing teams by offering regional insights and expertise.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional safety protocols, travel advisories, and environmental conservation efforts.
- Compile client feedback and contribute to continuous improvement of Northern Cape tour packages.
Required Skills
- Proven extensive knowledge of the Northern Cape region's geography, history, culture, and attractions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to convey information engagingly.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail for itinerary planning and coordination.
- Proficiency in using virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and productivity software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
- Customer-centric approach with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
- Problem-solving abilities and adaptability to unforeseen circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Tourism, Hospitality, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a tour guide or in a similar tourism planning/coordination role.
- Proficiency in additional South African languages (e.g., Afrikaans, Setswana) relevant to the Northern Cape.
- Experience with content creation for digital platforms (e.g., blogging, video editing).
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (useful for understanding safety aspects of tours).
Perks & Benefits
- Flexible remote work environment, offering excellent work-life balance.
- Competitive monthly salary with potential for performance-based bonuses.
- Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning about the tourism industry and Northern Cape.
- Exposure to a diverse team and international clientele.
