Job Description
Assmang Limited is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Truck Driver specializing in Ore Haulage to join our dynamic team at the Black Rock Mine Operations in the Northern Cape. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient transportation of manganese ore from various mining sites to processing plants or stockpiles within the mine complex. As an integral part of our logistics chain, you will be responsible for operating heavy-duty articulated dump trucks (ADTs) and other specialized haulage vehicles, ensuring the timely and secure movement of materials that are essential to our production targets. You will be expected to conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, performing essential fluid level checks, tyre pressure monitoring, and ensuring all safety features are operational. Any mechanical issues, no matter how minor, must be promptly reported to the maintenance team to prevent downtime and ensure operational safety. Adherence to all traffic laws, company policies, and site-specific procedures is paramount, particularly regarding speed limits, load capacities, and designated haul routes. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty articulated dump trucks (ADTs) and other designated haulage vehicles to transport manganese ore within the mine premises.
- Perform thorough pre-trip, in-trip, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking fluid levels, tyre pressure, brakes, lights, and other safety equipment.
- Accurately load and offload materials following established procedures, ensuring proper weight distribution and adherence to load limits.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, traffic regulations, site-specific procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Report any mechanical defects, damage, or operational issues with the vehicle promptly to the maintenance department and supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of loads, trips, fuel consumption, and any incidents or observations during shifts.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and other team members to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Keep the vehicle clean and tidy, performing basic housekeeping duties.
Required Skills
- Valid Code EC / EC1 / C / C1 driving license with PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) for heavy goods vehicles in South Africa.
- Minimum of 4 years (48 months) proven experience as a Heavy Vehicle Truck Driver, specifically in mining or heavy construction environments with ore haulage.
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle inspection and maintenance procedures.
- Strong understanding and adherence to road safety regulations and mining health & safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions precisely.
- Physical fitness and ability to work long hours, often in challenging weather conditions and dusty environments.
- Excellent spatial awareness and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications in heavy vehicle operation or mining equipment.
- Previous experience operating specific ADT models (e.g., Bell, Caterpillar, Komatsu).
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with GPS and telematics systems used in fleet management.
