Job Description
Victoria West Dierekliniek is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinarian to join our vibrant team. This unique Hybrid role combines the essential hands-on clinical and field work within Victoria West and the surrounding Northern Cape agricultural areas with the flexibility of some remote administrative and consultation tasks, offering an unparalleled opportunity to make a significant impact on animal health in our rural community. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries in a diverse range of animals, including small companion animals and large farm animals.
- Perform surgical procedures, including routine spays/neuters and emergency operations.
- Administer vaccinations, conduct preventative health examinations, and provide parasite control.
- Conduct farm visits for livestock health management, including herd health programs, calving assistance, and disease outbreak investigation.
- Provide emergency on-call services on a rotational basis.
- Educate pet owners and farmers on animal care, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and client communications, including remote data entry.
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure optimal patient care.
- Participate in community outreach and educational initiatives on animal health.
- Manage administrative tasks and client consultations remotely as part of the hybrid model.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) or eligibility for registration.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience in a mixed animal practice.
- Proficiency in veterinary diagnostic techniques, surgery, and pharmacology.
- Strong knowledge of small animal and large animal medicine.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for farm calls.
- Proficiency in veterinary practice management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with livestock production medicine and herd health programs.
- Advanced training or certification in a specific veterinary discipline (e.g., surgery, internal medicine).
- Fluency in Afrikaans is an advantage due to the local community demographics.
