We are seeking a highly skilled and passionately creative Craftsperson specializing in Beadwork to join our dynamic team at Amakhamalanga Cultural & Heritage Centre. Key Responsibilities
- Design and meticulously create a range of traditional Xhosa beadwork items, including necklaces, armbands, garments, and decorative pieces, ensuring cultural authenticity and high quality.
- Utilize and refine traditional beadwork techniques passed down through generations, ensuring the preservation of indigenous craft methods.
- Ethically source and manage high-quality beads and other materials, maintaining sustainable practices and supporting local suppliers where possible.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks on all finished products to ensure they meet our centre’s stringent standards for craftsmanship and cultural representation.
- Collaborate effectively with other artisans, cultural experts, and team members to develop new designs and interpret cultural narratives through beadwork.
- Potentially participate in interactive workshops, demonstrations, or guided tours for visitors, sharing insights into the history and meaning of beadwork.
- Assist with the presentation, packaging, and display of beadwork items for sale or exhibition at the centre, ensuring aesthetic appeal and cultural context.
