We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Agricultural Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing specifically on the unique agricultural landscape of the Western Cape. You will work on diverse projects ranging from advanced irrigation system design for vineyards and fruit orchards to developing precision agriculture strategies and mechanisation solutions tailored for local conditions. Your responsibilities will extend to providing remote technical support, conducting virtual site assessments, and collaborating with our on-site teams and clients to ensure successful project execution. This role requires an individual who is not only technically proficient but also possesses exceptional problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the agricultural sector’s nuances. Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimise irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot) for various crops and terrains, considering water availability, soil type, and climatic conditions in the Western Cape.
- Conduct remote feasibility studies, data analysis, and virtual site assessments to develop comprehensive agricultural engineering solutions.
- Provide expert technical consultation and support to farmers and internal teams on agricultural machinery, equipment, and best practices.
- Develop and implement precision agriculture strategies, including GIS mapping, remote sensing, and data-driven crop management.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for remote-led agricultural engineering initiatives.
- Stay abreast of new agricultural technologies, regulations, and industry trends, particularly those relevant to the Western Cape.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, and project documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and suppliers through virtual platforms.
- Contribute to the research and development of innovative agricultural products and services.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
- 3-5 years of proven experience in agricultural engineering, with a focus on irrigation and crop production.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and GIS applications.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic principles and irrigation design software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote work environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Western Cape agricultural practices and challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
