Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly motivated and skilled Recycling Plant Operator to become an integral part of our dynamic team at the Atlantis facility. This crucial role is at the heart of our operations, involving the safe and efficient operation of various advanced machinery and equipment used in our sophisticated glass recycling processes. As a Recycling Plant Operator, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless flow of materials, performing routine maintenance, and rigorously adhering to our stringent quality and safety standards. Your daily tasks will include monitoring complex production lines, proactively identifying and expertly resolving operational issues, and contributing significantly to a productive, safe, and environmentally conscious work environment. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor advanced recycling plant machinery and equipment, including crushers, conveyors, screens, and sorters, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
- Perform thorough routine inspections and proactive preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance, extended lifespan, and to promptly identify potential issues.
- Continuously monitor production lines, material flow, and critical process parameters to guarantee high-quality output and strict adherence to product specifications.
- Expertly identify and troubleshoot operational faults, machinery breakdowns, and process deviations, escalating complex technical issues to engineering or supervisory staff when necessary.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, robust operational procedures, and environmental regulations to maintain a hazard-free workplace.
- Assist with the efficient loading and unloading of raw and processed materials, ensuring meticulous proper storage and precise inventory management.
- Maintain an exemplary level of cleanliness and organization throughout the work area, actively promoting a safe, tidy, and efficient working environment.
- Complete accurate production logs, detailed maintenance records, and all other required documentation with precision and timeliness.
- Collaborate effectively and proactively with team members and supervisors to consistently achieve production targets, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Actively participate in ongoing specialized training and development programs to continuously enhance personal skills and expand professional knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating heavy machinery or complex production equipment, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or recycling environment.
- Strong, demonstrated understanding of industrial safety protocols, lockout/tag-out procedures, and emergency response guidelines.
- Ability to perform basic mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance tasks, and minor repairs.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to monitor and manage complex processes simultaneously.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse team.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in varying industrial environmental conditions (e.g., noise, dust, heat, confined spaces).
- Basic computer literacy for data entry, report generation, and process monitoring using industrial control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NQF Level 2 or 3 qualification (e.g., Certificate in Production Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related industrial field).
- Valid forklift operator certification or demonstrated experience with other heavy lifting equipment and mobile plant.
- Specific experience with waste management or glass recycling processes.
- First Aid and/or Fire Fighting certification.
- Understanding and practical application of Lean Manufacturing or 5S principles.
