Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and passionate Remote Apiarist & Beekeeping Consultant to join our dynamic team. This unique remote role is designed for an expert in apiculture who can provide strategic guidance, technical support, and comprehensive consultation to our co-operative members and internal projects from a remote setting. While the primary mode of work is remote, enabling exceptional flexibility, this position will occasionally require on-site travel within the KwaZulu-Natal region to conduct apiary assessments, deliver hands-on training, and provide direct oversight when necessary.
As our Remote Apiarist, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing sustainable beekeeping practices, optimizing honey production, and ensuring the health and vitality of bee colonies across various member farms. You will be responsible for creating educational content, conducting virtual workshops, and advising on best practices for hive management, disease prevention, and product harvesting. This role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of bee biology, environmental factors affecting bee health, and the commercial aspects of apiculture. Your expertise will not only benefit our members by diversifying their income streams but also contribute significantly to the ecological health of our agricultural landscapes through enhanced pollination. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive, sustainable beekeeping strategies and best practices for co-operative members.
- Provide expert remote consultation and technical support on all aspects of apiculture, including hive management, pest and disease identification/control, and honey production optimization.
- Design and deliver virtual training programs, workshops, and educational materials for beekeepers of varying experience levels.
- Monitor global and local apiculture trends, research, and regulatory changes to ensure members receive the most current and effective advice.
- Establish and maintain robust record-keeping systems for apiary performance, production yields, and bee health data.
- Conduct market analysis for honey and other bee products to advise members on optimal sales and distribution strategies.
- Collaborate with other agricultural specialists within the co-operative to integrate beekeeping practices with broader farming operations, enhancing pollination services.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for co-operative management on apiculture initiatives, progress, and future recommendations.
- Undertake occasional on-site visits to member apiaries within KwaZulu-Natal for hands-on assessments, advanced training, and strategic project oversight.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in commercial apiculture and extensive knowledge of bee biology.
- Exceptional remote communication and virtual collaboration skills using various digital platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on sustainable solutions.
- Proficiency in data management, record-keeping, and report generation.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging educational content and training sessions.
- Valid South African driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally within KwaZulu-Natal.
- Deep understanding of bee diseases, pests, and their effective management strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Apiculture, Entomology, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in beekeeping or apiculture.

- Fluency in Zulu or another indigenous South African language.
