Job Description

Are you a driven and empathetic financial professional with a knack for understanding individual needs? African Bank is seeking a dedicated Remote Loan Officer to join our dynamic team, serving clients primarily within the Thohoyandou, Limpopo region from the convenience of your home office. In this crucial role, you will be the primary point of contact for prospective borrowers, guiding them through the loan application process with expertise and care. You will assess financial situations, explain various loan products, and ensure that our clients receive solutions that align with their specific requirements and our responsible lending guidelines. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your sales acumen and financial knowledge in a flexible, remote setting, contributing directly to our mission of financial inclusion. We are looking for an individual who is not only skilled in loan origination but also passionate about providing exceptional customer service and building lasting relationships. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, managing your client portfolio and contributing to the growth of African Bank’s presence in the Limpopo province. Your success will be measured by your ability to meet lending targets, maintain compliance, and uphold African Bank’s reputation for trust and reliability. This remote position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa, provided you have a stable internet connection and a dedicated workspace, though your focus will be on the Thohoyandou market and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with potential clients to assess their financial needs and recommend suitable loan products.
  • Educate clients on loan terms, conditions, and repayment structures, ensuring full understanding and transparency.
  • Guide clients through the entire loan application process, assisting with documentation and information gathering.
  • Conduct thorough credit assessments and risk analysis to ensure responsible lending practices.
  • Collaborate with the underwriting department to expedite loan approvals and disbursements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and loan application statuses in our CRM system.
  • Achieve and exceed monthly and quarterly loan origination targets.
  • Stay informed about market trends, competitor offerings, and regulatory changes in the lending industry.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, providing ongoing support and fostering repeat business.
  • Adhere strictly to all internal policies, procedures, and external financial regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a Loan Officer, Credit Consultant, or similar role in the financial services sector.
  • Strong understanding of various loan products (personal loans, micro-loans, etc.) and credit assessment principles.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet sales targets and work independently in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to ethical lending practices.
  • Access to a stable internet connection and a dedicated, quiet home workspace.
  • Residency in South Africa with eligibility to work remotely.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working exclusively in a remote work environment.
  • Familiarity with the Thohoyandou, Limpopo market and local community.
  • Knowledge of Xhosa, Zulu, Venda, or other local South African languages in addition to English.
  • NQF Level 5 qualification in Wealth Management, Banking, or a related financial services field.
