Patterson-UTI Energy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Petroleum Geologist to join our team in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our drilling and completion operations. This position requires a strong understanding of subsurface geology, reservoir characterization, and well planning. You will be responsible for interpreting geological data, building geological models, and providing technical support to our operational teams. This role demands a high degree of proficiency in geological software and a strong ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, geophysicists, and other technical professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret geological data from various sources, including well logs, seismic data, and core samples.
- Develop and update geological models using industry-standard software.
- Provide geological support to drilling and completion operations.
- Participate in well planning meetings and contribute to the development of drilling programs.
- Analyze reservoir characteristics to optimize well placement and completion strategies.
- Prepare and present geological reports and presentations.
- Collaborate with other technical professionals, including engineers, geophysicists, and landmen.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements in petroleum geology.
Required Skills
- Proficient in geological software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom)
- Strong understanding of sedimentary geology and reservoir characterization
- Experience with well log interpretation and seismic data analysis
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geology or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry
- Experience with unconventional resource plays
