Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert agronomic advice and technical support to farmers via virtual consultations, phone, and email.
- Develop and implement tailored crop management plans, including fertilization schedules, pest and disease control strategies, and irrigation recommendations.
- Interpret soil and plant tissue analysis results, recommending appropriate corrective actions.
- Conduct virtual farm assessments, utilizing remote sensing and GIS technologies where applicable.
- Stay abreast of the latest agricultural research, technologies, and industry trends to ensure advice is current and effective.
- Collaborate closely with Laeveld Agrochem's sales and product development teams to provide client-centric solutions.
- Prepare detailed reports on farm performance, crop health, and recommended interventions.
- Assist in the training of sales staff and clients on new products and agronomic best practices.
- Participate in agricultural workshops, seminars, and field days (virtually or physically, as required).
- Drive the adoption of sustainable farming practices and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Undertake occasional on-site visits to farms in Mpumalanga for complex issues or relationship building, as necessary.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of practical experience as an Agronomist or in a similar advisory role.
- Proven expertise in crop production, soil science, plant pathology, and entomology.
- Strong understanding of agricultural inputs, including fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
- Proficiency in using agricultural software, remote sensing tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport remotely.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to manage multiple projects independently.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally within Mpumalanga.
- Fluent in English and ideally Afrikaans (common in South African agriculture).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Agronomy or a related field.
- Professional registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions).
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies and data analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging training sessions.
