Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Remote Production Manager to join our dynamic team, based out of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will operate primarily from a remote setup, leveraging cutting-edge technology to strategically oversee and optimize production operations across multiple Nampak Flexible Packaging sites or within a highly automated, centrally managed production ecosystem. This unique opportunity requires a visionary leader who can drive efficiency, maintain stringent quality standards, and foster a culture of continuous improvement from a distance, demonstrating exceptional leadership and problem-solving skills in a virtual environment. You will be instrumental in deploying and managing remote monitoring systems, meticulously analyzing performance data, and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance productivity, reduce operational costs, and ensure consistent output without requiring constant physical presence on the factory floor. The Remote Production Manager will be responsible for a comprehensive and strategic overview of all production processes, ensuring strict alignment with organizational goals, customer expectations, and adherence to global industry best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor remote production strategies to achieve operational excellence, cost efficiency, and quality targets across multiple sites or automated lines.
  • Utilize advanced remote monitoring systems, IoT data, and ERP dashboards to track real-time production performance, identify bottlenecks, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of on-site supervisors and production specialists through virtual meetings and digital communication tools, ensuring high performance and continuous development.
  • Formulate and manage production budgets, control expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost reduction through process optimization and resource allocation.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance from a remote oversight perspective.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, engineering, and sales teams to optimize material flow, production scheduling, and product delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies remotely to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Prepare comprehensive production reports and present performance analysis to senior management, offering data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of new technologies and digital tools to enhance remote production capabilities and foster a culture of innovation.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in production management, with at least 2 years in a multi-site or remote oversight capacity.
  • Proven experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), and advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) for performance monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills for effective remote team management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and quality management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic, remote, and technologically advanced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • PMP or other project management certification.
  • Experience with industrial IoT (IIoT), AI in manufacturing, and advanced automation technologies in a multi-site or remote setting.
